
Gap Civil

Gap Civil is a local old-time string band from Sparta, NC. Their music motto is “honor and innovate.” They blend elements of old-time, bluegrass, country, and originals that are sure to get listeners tapping their feet or dancing. Gap Civil members include Lucas Pasley, fiddle, Chris Johnson, banjo and bass, Kyle Dean Smith, on guitar and bass, and Todd Hiat, on mandolin and guitar.
While at Doughton Park Recreation Area, visitors can also explore hiking trails and historic Brinegar Cabin and stop in for a home-style meal at The Bluffs Restaurant.
The National Park Service is performing road work on the Parkway north of Doughton Park. Visitors can access the area via a detour along NC 18 from Sparta, N.C. For a map and additional information, visit BluffsRestaurant.org.
About Milepost Music
Milepost Music brings the the Blue Ridge Music Center to outdoor locations along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Milepost Music is a FREE concert featuring local and regional artists. The shows are held from 2-4 p.m., Sundays, at various locations along the Parkway. No tickets are needed. Bring a camp chair.
Picnics or box lunches are welcome, but no alcohol is permitted on site
About Doughton Park, Milepost 241
Originally called Bluff Park, Doughton Park was renamed in 1953 to honor Congressman Robert Lee Doughton, a supporter and advocate of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Doughton Park is known for its extensive hiking trails. It is also home to Brinegar cabin, which is used for various interpretive activities including demonstrations of various folk crafts.
The Doughton Park concerts are held the fourth Sunday of the month in the Doughton Park Picnic Area, across the roadway from the iconic Bluffs Restaurant and near the Bluffs Lodge. Bring a chair and sit a while to hear some some of the best local musicians as they regale you with music and stories about the local musical traditions.
