Peter Givens and the Blue Ridge Ramblers

Peter Givens and the Blue Ridge Ramblers
Music and Book Reading from An Enduring Voice
Saturday, September 27, 2025
12-3 p.m. | Covered Breezeway at Blue Ridge Music Center
Admission Free
Author Peter Givens will read excerpts from his book An Enduring Voice: A Musical Journey from Italy’s “Singing Woods” to the Great Valley of Virginia, and tell additional stories about Virginia and music of the mountains. As a former Blue Ridge Parkway Ranger, Givens will also tie in the themes of his book to his experiences on the Parkway.
This event commemorates the work done on the Parkway in the year since Hurricane Helene.
Interspersed with the readings, the Blue Ridge Ramblers will play their bluegrass, old-time and folk repertoire. The group is well-versed in the traditions and stories of Blue Ridge and incorporate tales about the music, dance, and instruments of the region into their performance. Band members include Lynn Wolf, Jim Purcell, Gene Anderson, Mike Mears, Glenn Paschal, and Shannon Murray.
Bring a copy of An Enduring Voice to be signed by Peter Givens. You can purchase a copy in advance to bring with you. There will be a limited number of books available for purchase on site.
This special presentation is part of the Backstories series, made possible by a Central Appalachians Living Traditions grant from Mid Atlantic Arts.
